Are the apps on your phone overwhelming? (1 min read)
This will change your life!
Does your phone with all its apps ever feel overwhelmingly busy and disorganized?
Here is a brilliant idea shared by the PepTalkHer instagram team that sparked a morning coffee break to do exactly this; Organize my phone apps into affirmations.
What our Founder, Sarah Parkins, learned from doing this exericse:
It prompted me to consider what affirmations are actually important for me. Given the number of times I look at my phone seeing the affirmations will be a delightful experience I’ve just entered into.
I had way too many apps and deleted many that sat unused.
I became curious and was alerted to red flags that impact well-being. The majority of apps were about productivity and translated into ‘I am productive’. I am all for being productive but not overly so, productivity can be a sink hole for intellect, analysis, and busy syndrome. The volume of productivity apps on my phone pointed towards teetering on the edge of being too focused on productivity. Generally our way of life is obsessed with productivity. Society wise we put it on a pedestal and shout out that success is constant production. However we all know the perils of that…when we over-produce the quality of what we do goes down - people burnout and become sick, the environment struggles, and the planet is put under pressure… all resulting from over production. Organizing my phone apps alerted me to a potentially unhealthy preoccupation with productivity.
If they don’t fit into an affirmation do they really need to be on the phone? My phone and its app work for me, not the other way round.
The exercise bought to the forefront of my mind what affirmations I do want for myself, without overthinking I just organized the apps. I’m fully open to changing the affirmations as the days unfold however it didn’t take long to instantly come up with the affirmations as I reviewed the apps and began moving them. Easy peasy exercise.
What affirmations did I end up with? I am creative, I am grateful, I am learning, I am exploring, I am expansive, I am insightful, I am fun, I am nourished, I am rich, I am productive, I am connected, I am supported, I am vibrant, I am safe.
Are you going to give it a go? Do you already organize your phone apps like this? We are curious to hear. Leave a comment below.
